Broken Arrow Ranch
Broken Arrow Ranch is one of the very few farms that we reach out to that is beyond Florida state lines. We do so because we appreciate their approach to hunting wild boar. The wild boar that we source from Broken Arrow is a truly wild animal, free to roam across more than 800,000 acres of vast Texas hill country.
Wild boar are an invasive species that cause widespread destruction in the North American ecosystem. They compete with native wildlife for natural resources. They destroy nests and eat eggs of birds and reptiles. Wild boar destroy irrigation systems and eat farmer's crops. They will even eat seeds and seedlings of regenerating forests.
Many people will trap wild boar and fatten them up with domestic pig feed. This results in a stressed animal, not used to being held in captivity, whose meat often tastes "gamey" or foul. We support Broken Arrow's operation because they're out hunting these animals in their natural habitat. Obviously, the meat is free of any growth stimulants, antibiotics, or other medications. We also use wild harvested antelope from Broken Arrow Ranch in some of our fancy sausages.
